Late chronotype is linked to greater cortical thickness in the left fusiform and entorhinal gyri

چکیده
Humans can be classified as early, intermediate and late chronotypes based on their preferred sleep wakefulness patterns. Eveningness is associated with increased risk of developing several psychiatric conditions, such major depressive addictive disorders, however, the anatomical basis chronotype distinctions, which might predispose to above remains largely unexplored. Using magnetic resonance imaging data from 113 healthy young adults (71 females), we aimed correlate individual scores cortical thickness, well subcortical cerebellar grey matter volume. The results revealed one cluster located in left fusiform entorhinal gyri showing thickness increasing preference for eveningness. These structures are positioned mediate well-established differences affective processing, i.e. negative affect chronotypes. Furthermore, line earlier findings, found no Thus, our study confirms that circadian specific structural substrates provides a potential differential functioning morning- evening-oriented individuals, bridging gap between brain structure function.

The contribution of the left mid-fusiform cortical thickness to Chinese and English reading in a large Chinese sample
Previous functional neuroimaging studies have shown that the left mid-fusiform cortex plays a critical role in reading. However, there is very limited research relating this region's anatomical structure to reading performance either in native or second language. Using structural MRI and three reading tasks (Chinese characters, English words, and alphabetic pseudowords) and a non-reading task (...
متن کاملWhat the left and right anterior fusiform gyri tell us about semantic memory.
The study of patients with semantic dementia, a variant of frontotemporal lobar degeneration, has emerged over the last two decades as an important lesion model for studying human semantic memory. Although it is well-known that semantic dementia is associated with temporal lobe degeneration, controversy remains over whether the semantic deficit is due to diffuse temporal lobe damage, damage to ...
متن کاملLocation of the central sulcus via cortical thickness of the precentral and postcentral gyri on MR.
PURPOSE To determine whether relative cortical thickness measurements of the precentral and postcentral gyri can be used to differentiate the central sulcus from adjacent cortical sulci. METHODS Turbo inversion-recovery MR imaging of the entire brain was done with scans parallel to the anterior commissure-posterior commissure line. Cortical thickness was measured in each hemisphere with a jew...
متن کاملCortical thickness is linked to executive functioning in adulthood and aging.
Executive functions that are dependent upon the frontal-parietal network decline considerably during the course of normal aging. To delineate neuroanatomical correlates of age-related executive impairment, we investigated the relation between cortical thickness and executive functioning in 73 younger (20-32 years) and 56 older (60-71 years) healthy adults. Executive functioning was assessed usi...
متن کاملSemantic relevance explains category effects in medial fusiform gyri.
We used functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging to explore the neural correlates of semantic relevance in 12 healthy participants performing a picture-naming task. In addition, we tested the hypothesis that category effects typically found in functional imaging can be partly explained in terms of different semantic relevance for animals and artefacts. We report that semantic relevance modulates n...
